This course focuses on the national immunisation register or NIR for short. The National Immunisation Register (NIR) is designed to retain all immunisations given to individuals on the current childhood immunisation schedule (for eligible patients) and those on the Meningococcal B (MeNZB) Immunisation Schedule.
The information will be retained throughout the lifespan of that individual and up 20 years after their death. NIR will provide this immunisation status information to approved health providers, to assist with recall and follow-up of individuals and to enhance the ease of opportunistic immunisation. The information is sent to and from NIR as an electronic message via HealthLink. Age cohort and location define NIR patient eligibility.
